9. Checklist for editors (HB)

Material to be included with your edition

1. A complete list of the mss used, listed by both full and abbreviated sigla. If a siglum required is not available on the project website, this must be established in consultation with the relevant Volume Editor and Tarrin Wills. Editors will need to incorporate these lists into their introductions.
2. Transcriptions of at least the main ms. of each stanza (see Mini-Manual for guidelines and conventions for the transcription of verses). If the transcription was made by Valgerður and is therefore already in the database, please indicate this to your Volume Editor.
3. A list of material from your edited text for inclusion in the general indices, as follows. Each should be accompanied by a cross-reference, by stanza and line number, to where in the edition the term appears:
   • Ethnic names, e.g. Egðir, people from Agder (ON Agðir), Norway — ÞjóðA Sex 7/5 
   • Indigenous Terms and suggested explanations, e.g. dís, minor female deity — Sturl Hákkv 22/8 
   • Mythical and Legendary Names, e.g. Alfaðir, a name for the god Óðinn — Arn Þorfdr 1/3; Gjallarbrú, a bridge in ON myth — Sturl Hákkv 21/3 
   • Nicknames (cross-referenced to Personal Names), with English translation e.g. berfœttr ‘Barelegs’, Magnús Óláfsson — Anon Nkt 43/1, 66/3
   • Personal Names, with dates where known, and nicknames if known, the latter translated into English, e.g. Eiríkr plógpenningr ‘Plough-penny’ Valdimarsson, Danish king (r. 1232-50) — Sturl Magndr 2/5
   • Place Names (including river names, locations of battles and churches), with modern equivalent, e.g. Agðir, Agder, district in southern Norway — Ív Sig 24/3; Dyflinn, Dublin, Ireland — Mberf Lv 6/2; Glaumsteinn, unidentified p. n. in Halland, present-day Sweden — Sturl Hryn 11/8
   • Miscellaneous Names, e.g. Lafranzmessa ‘Feast of S. Lawrence’, 10 August — Rv Lv 28/4; Ormr ‘Serpent’, a ship belonging to Óláfr Tryggvason — Anon Nkt 22/2
4. A list of references made to other poetic texts, e.g. citing parallel examples in the Notes to your edition:
   • skaldic: using our sigla, in the format Sigv Berv 14/2^II, i.e. skald siglum (or Anon); poem siglum; stanza number; line number; volume number in superscript, unless the stanza cited will appear in the same volume as your edition, in which case the superscript vol. no. is not needed. For references to poetry in vols V and VIII, where the siglum includes the numbering of the stanza within the text, the format is: Herv Lv 8/1^VIII (Heiðr 25). All the project’s sigla can be found on the online database.
   • eddic: in the format Am 5/3 (NK 249), i.e. LP abbreviation as in LP, stanza number, line number, and, if text is cited from the poem, page number in the Neckel-Kuhn 1983 edition.
5. Full bibliographical references, in accordance with the Bibliographical Guidelines in the Mini-Manual, for any primary or secondary sources referred to and which do not already appear in the online Bibliography on the database. If the item does appear in the project’s online bibliography, there is no need to provide a full reference, but please indicate that you have used it by means of abbreviated title or short reference, e.g. LP; Nordal 1994.
